SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA -- Residents at DC Ranch, an 8,300-acre community in Scottsdale, Arizona, will be able to integrate the control and management of home office equipment, telephones, VCR's, televisions, and security and environmental management systems with HomeStar, a residential wiring network developed by Bell Laboratories, the research and development arm of Lucent Technologies. Homeowners can also add future services without installing costly additional wiring.
With the help of HomeStar, DC Ranch homeowners will be able to link together and access different equipment such as home computers, printers, televisions, monitors for watching children and security systems -- to cite a few examples -- throughout different locations in the home. They will be able to access the community intranet, send electronic mail, or manage stock portfolios online at faster speeds than currently available with the standard wiring installed in most homes today.
DC Ranch is the country's first totally connected community which links residents via technology and more than 13 miles of pedestrian paths and trails through each of its neighborhoods. It covers 13 square miles with nearly half of the mountainous 8,300 acres set aside as open space never to be developed.
Neighborhoods are small, with each planned for approximately 40-60 homes. All builders at DC Ranch are required by the developer, DMB, to install a structured wiring system to support a variety of services. DMB chose HomeStar as the preferred wiring system for the community.
DC Ranch is located on land that has been a working cattle ranch since the early 1900s. With a planned build-out of 10 years, DC Ranch is zoned for 8,000 residential units, schools, houses of worship, office and retail space and several public parks. More than 3,500 acres of the Ranch have been set aside to remain undeveloped and in its natural state.
The developers of DC Ranch spent years researching and visiting communities across America before planning DC Ranch. The homes feature a rare level of “finish” in the Valley with extraordinary quality, using materials and colors palettes that echo the Sonoran desert landscape. DC Ranch is designed to give you a variety of housing choices along with the amenities you’re looking for, all within the context of this vibrant and exclusive community. The neighborhoods are designed to provide a more intimate environment, with front-of-the-house living to bring neighbors closer together, while courtyards, parks and other gathering places encourage interaction. All neighborhoods are connected by a system of paths and trails which allow you to go virtually anywhere in the community without crossing a major street.

Every Saturday from 10-2 the Farmers Market offers fresh produce, Southwest specialties and fresh-cut flowers. Local chefs give demonstrations and new artisans, musicians and vendors provide fresh flavor to each market day.
Market Street Park is a one acre park that links Market Street to the neighborhoods. It includes interactive water features, places to “dig for fossils“, a secret garden and gentle hills to roll down, in addition to picnic areas and a parental viewing area. The playground area is covered by a tensile shade structure to shield children from the desert sun. Desert Camp Community Recreation Complex, a nine acre indoor/outdoor community recreation facility, offers on-site computers, workout facilities, swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, children’s play areas and many other amenities geared toward family recreation.
Copper Ridge School (K-8) on site is part of Scottsdale Unified School District and encompasses elementary and middle school, with shared use facilities on the single campus. Public park facilities adjacent to the school will include softball and soccer fields, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts.
